Steve Jobs’ Epic 5-Minute Anti-Google Rant

Apple had a blowout quarter on sales of iPhones and iPads when they reported after the bell. Steve Jobs went absolutely ballistic on Google during the conference call. His message: "We think Android is very, very fragmented and becoming more fragmented by the day. And as you know, Apple strives for the integrated model so the user isn’t forced to be the systems integrator." Wow. The gloves are off.

Apple followed the same policy vs. the PC in the 1980s.

  That is certainly my view and I think it will be disastrous for Jobs. But Jobs’ rant is painting Android as the Unix of the mobile OS space. What he seems to be saying is “look guys, Android is too fragmented for developers and too difficult for users. Stay with us.” To me it is almost as if he is talking to three audiences, developers, Wall Street analysts and customers. He can make these arguments but ultimately the market will determine if he is right.

I’ll be switching from Apple to Android in the near future. I like the Apple iOS, but several features they deliberately leave out will make me switch.
1. I want to drag and drop mp3s/files from my PC. Syncing through itunes is annoying to do everytime for a simple file change.
2. I have to jailbreak to run certain unapproved apps, tethering, grooveshark, etc…
3. No replaceable battery.
4. No memory card.

  I am with you on that. I have to say though that using my wife’s iPhone demonstrates to me that it is a quality product. I still think the latest iPhone is the one to beat (I have a Nexus One). Question for you: did the lack of flash make any difference for you? Ever since I got flash for Android and the Dolphin Browser, my browsing experience n the mobile has been first-rate.
