Today is Credit Writedowns’ 10th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe I started this site ten years ago today. Time has gone by so fast. It feels like yesterday when I started this project and all hell broke lose in the finance world. I had contracted Lyme disease and was taking time off to recuperate and wanted to put my thoughts on paper. I started two tracks, one political and one financial. The finance bit won, thank goodness.

Credit Writedowns Pro is coming back

I have an announcement to make though. I am re-starting Credit Writedowns Pro, my paid newsletter. Let me tell you why.

Over the past year, I hadn’t really written that much. Some people even pinged me to ask if I had given up on Credit Writedowns. I had a lot of personal issues to contend with. And so that kept me away from the site. But I guess I felt like I had nothing to say too.

This changed as the new year began. I have re-emerged from my writing slumber and post pretty much every single weekday now. And so writing has taken up more of my time. I want to do it more. But to write more, I have to earn money. What do economists call it: opportunity cost.

So this is the first in a series of posts to you my readers that I need your help to get this project off the ground. I need to know I have support for this endeavour. And so I ask you to spread the word to people you know that read my stuff – retweet this post, send it via email, whatever.

Credit Writedowns Pro will be different this time

Eventually I am going to set all of this up. I have already been working on the technical side and following advice on setting up the website readability, the membership backend and all of that technical nitty gritty. I still have a ways to go on that side. And I am also thinking about pricing.

And I haven’t decided on that yet. Here’s what I have decided though. I want Credit Writedowns Pro to be different than it was when I last started in 2012. Back then I set up a mirror site that had a paywall. And basically, if you didn’t pay, you had no access. That’s not where I want to go with my writing. I want people to have access. But I also need to earn money. So I am likely to implement some sort of leaky paywall, where members get greater and better access and other people can hit up the odd post as they see fit.

Please sign up and give feedback

I want this to be sort of an open discussion. So what I am going to do is try to set up ways for you to reach me and tell me you’re interested. Hit this link and tick the box for “Credit Writedowns Pro” and you will automatically be added to a list of readers interested in Credit Writedowns Pro. That way I can stay in touch with you and make sure you get a discount when we start the newsletter.

Also send me an email on the contact form. That way I can take suggestions on what you want to see with Credit Writedowns Pro. I definitely intend to revamp the website. There are definitely a lot of kinks to be worked out. And I find them frustrating – like the redirect error that hit my site in February. Or the fact that blockquotes don’t render correctly on mobile websites and leave out content. These problems have to be fixed.

I want to also create some mobile apps that make it easier to read the site. But I also want to concentrate on writing more and let the technical people sort out the other stuff. And of course I need your help to do that.

That’s all I have to say right now. I will have a lot more to say later on the ten year anniversary of Credit Writedowns and what I’ve learned in that time. It’s been a wonderful ten years and I look forward to writing for you for ten more!

Cheers,

Edward
