China can’t take up the empire mantle, not even close. Yes, the US can no longer support empire but its ruling class doesn’t care, they will push things until the bitter end.
A collapse of US empire and the withdrawal of the 7th Fleet would mean an explosion of militarism in Asia and war. Asian elites have just as much to lose.
